Get Involved in NASW Advocacy!
Legislative Advocacy Committee
The Legislative Advocacy Committee is an energetic group of people who meet once a month at the NASW office. The committee works to prioritize legislative issues and develop strategies in the current political climate. The chair of the Legislative Advocacy committee is Jim Chaplin. Jim can be reached by email at jim.chaplin@neshv.org. An ongoing project of the committee is to maintain the Legislative Alert Network and expand upon this through the Legislative Liaison Network. The members of both networks establish a relationship with their legislators and contact them about human service issues on a case by case or ongoing basis, respectively. Action alerts are sent to members of the Action Alert Network for immediate response to issues.
The Legislative Advocacy Committee presents an excellent opportunity to take action on NASW priorities! New members are always welcome. If you are interested joining the committee please email Rebekah Gewirtz at gewirtz@naswma.org or call 617-227-9635 x 12 for more information or email Jim at jim.chaplin@neshv.org.

...Are you able to do more? Become a Legislative Liaison as well!
Legislative Liaisons
Liaisons play a critical role in NASW advocacy at the State House. You can become a Legislative Liaison easily and quickly. Being a Liaison is a slightly bigger commitment than signing up for the Legislative Action Alert, which means:
-
Agreeing to contact your legislator when a bill or issue of importance arises.
-
Occasionally coming to the State House or lobbying your legislator in your district at their district office.
-
Getting updates from the Legislative Advocacy Committee about additional actions you can take and decisions at Committee meetings.
Send an email to Rebekah Gewirtz, NASW Director of Governmental Affairs and Public Policy at Gewirtz@naswma.org to sign up or if you would like to learn more about becoming a Liaison.
