Accomplishments in Advocacy
Advocacy at NASW-MA is two fold.
Political Action for Candidate Election (PACE) is the political action arm of NASW. PACE is non-partisan and endorses candidates for state level political office in Massachusetts. PACE endorses candidates that support social work ethics, values and the legislative agenda of NASW. PACE then provides endorsed candidates’ campaigns with financial or in-kind support. In addition PACE makes formal endorsements of ballot initiatives such as supporting the Vote No on Question 1 initiative which successes during the 2008 general election in preventing the repeal of the state income tax.
The Legislative Advocacy Committee (LAC) of NASW formulates a legislative agenda for every two year session to propose legislation that restores and supports funding for effective human service programs and improves and strengthens social work practice and the populations that social workers serve.
Over the past four years NASW-MA has many political and legislative victories. If you have any questions or would like more information about getting involved in NASW-MA PACE or the LAC please contact Rebekah Gewirtz, NASW Director of Government Relations and Political Action at 617-227-9635 x 12 or Julie Balasalle, Government Relations and Political Action Associate at 617-227-9635 x 20.
